Woman Beats Male Swimmers in Videy Race

The formal Videy island swim took place yesterday and there were three participants, two men and one woman, Thórdís Hrönn Pálsdóttir, who is the first woman to participate in the Videy swim since 1959.

She was the first swimmer ashore and set a new female record for the Videy swim: one hour and 22 minutes, Fréttabladid reports.

“I have swum to Hrísey and Drangey so I thought it was natural to take on the Videy swim as well,” Pálsdóttir said. “We had great conditions and I felt comfortable the whole time.”
Pálsdóttir swam with her training partners and said the swim hadn’t been a competition, even though she beat them to shore. “It’s just a question of a enjoying it and have fun,” she said.
Thirty-five people have completed the formal Videy swim and Pálsdóttir is the third woman to have participated in the race since it first began.
